House of Reps summon police boss Ibrahim Idris


- The House of Representatives have summoned the inspector general of police Ibrahim Idris over some missing riffles - The police boss was also summoned to make clarification on some missing cash exhibits in the care of the Nigeria police - Idris however, spent 30 minutes during the session with the lawmakers, he said he needed to attend to some issues within the force 
The inspector general of police Ibrahim Idris was on Thursday, November 3, summoned by members of the House of Representatives. Idris, Vanguard reports was appeared before the House committee on public accounts for 30 minutes over alleged missing riffles and N1.9 million cash exhibit. The committee chairman Kingsley Chinda – representing Obio/ Akpor in Rivers state – said, the IGP’s summon was based on the report of the auditor general of the federation between 2010 and 2013.
He said four riffles and some cash exhibits were missing from the Nigeria police resources. Chinda also said 55 queries were raised against the force from different quarters within the period under review. In then report, the audit examination of arms and ammunition, 2012 said four different types of pistols were missing.
Also, N928,000 was said to be missing in 2011; N100,000 in 2102 and N720,000 and laptops worth N250,000 were all mission. At the session, Idris asked the lawmakers to permit him leave to attend to other responsibilities while other officers led by an assistant inspector general of police Abdulsalami Iyaji in charge of budget would represent him. He left 30 minutes after the session started.

Ex-IG Arase threatens to sue over claims of seized 19 vehicles

Arase was quoted as saying in a statement released on Monday, October 24 that the reports were untrue and was an evil campaign against him. Arase threatened in the statement that he would sue to court of law “those desperate to tarnish his image”. His statement read in part: “It is embarrassing for me to wake up on Monday morning to be inundated with calls and messages on purported 19 vehicles recovered from me. I wish to reassure the general public that there was nothing like that.  “Like I said in July, I did not take any police vehicle with me outside what I am entitled to, and so, there couldn’t have been any vehicle recovered from me. If there was any such, those behind this campaign of calumny should please make the number plates of the vehicles public and where they were recovered from.
